Charles F. Rockwell House

Charles F. Rockwell Housec1872. 1416 N. Main Street, Honesdale Charles F. Rockwell, born in Milford, Pa., in 1825, held several positions before settling in Honesdale in 1866. He was a clerk for an Erie railroad contractor in Lackawaxen in 1848, clerk in Yonkers, N.Y., in 1849 and in Equinunk, a clerk in the store of I.&D.C. Scudder, proprietors of two tanneries. At the latter place, he met and married Harriet S. Scudder, the daughter of the senior partner of the company. From 1869 to 1885 he was Honesdale's agent of the United Express Co. and elected County Treasurer and Assessor in 1872, the year the house was built. The home remained in the Rockwell family for ninety-four years. Architectural style: Late Victorian, Italianate.

From 1993 through 2008 the Honesdale National Bank published an annual wall calendar, each featured 13 historic sites. The sites were chosen and researched by a committee of the historical society and artwork was commissioned to Judy Hunt and William Amptman by the bank.

This page was one month of the calendar and was made possible through the Wayne County Commissioners and a Tourism Promotion Committee’s Tourism Grant.
