This park is open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
Firearms, fires, fireworks, hunting, and trapping are prohibited.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
Fishing is permitted. A fishing license is required in accordance with Pennsylvania law.
Motorized vehicles are not allowed beyond the parking lots.
Dog owners must leash their pet, pick up, and dispose their waste properly.
Take out what you bring in including your dog’s bagged waste. Your pleasure and pride in our park will be enhances when it is kept clean.
Leave natural, historical, and archeological resources in place. Collecting, removing, defacing, or destroying these resources are prohibited.
Small children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Professional photographers must register, complete application and pay fee.
Anyone not following these rules will not be allowed use of the park.
This park contained remnants of the Delaware & Hudson Canal, which include unmarked sudden drop offs, lock and canal walls, and standing water.
This park is a natural area with poisonous plants, including poison ivy, sumac, and oak. Poisonous snakes are rare, but may also be present. Ticks, including whose carrying Lyme disease, are present, during parts of the year.
This park borders the Lackawaxen River on the west, which after heavy rain, may rise quickly and move swiftly.
Anyone using the park should be aware of these hazards, take precautions against them, and use at their own risk.

The following applies to photography on the grounds of the D&H Canal Park at Lock 31 (herein after referred to as the Canal Park) which is a property of the Wayne County Historical Society. Fees and policies are subject to change without notice.
Non-Commercial Photographers
Non-commercial photographers and videographers, when visiting the Canal Park, do not need to register, but must avoid damage to grounds and disruption of visitors. Personal photographs and video of images from the Canal Park may not be used for commercial purposes.
Commercial/Professional Photographers
Commercial/professional photography is defined as any photography produced for publication or promotional use or for which income is derived. All professional/commercial photographers must be registered. Commercial/professional photographers and videographers must register, complete the application on page three of this document and submit fee payment.
All applications must be filed and approved at least 7 days in advance of any photography sessions. No walk-in appointments will be accepted. An agreement of terms will be signed and kept on file. Cost of a commercial/professional photography permit is $100 per year and must be renewed annually. Photographers must show their permit if requested by Canal Park staff.
No fees are assessed to credentialed media photographers.
Rules
The following rules apply to all photography activity at the Canal Park:
Flow of visitors must not be blocked at any time.
Walking in plant beds or behind plant beds or placing equipment in beds is prohibited. Plants and planted containers may not be moved, rearranged, or handled in any way. Blooms may not be picked. Absolutely no cutting of any plant material is permitted. Nothing is to be trimmed for any reason.
No structure or set will be built.
Visitors may not climb or hang from trees or architectural features. Do no hang equipment, backpacks, or props from trees or architectural features. Climbing, sitting, standing or walking on walls, fences, structures or water features is strictly forbidden.
All models, photographers and assistants must be fully and appropriately clothed; no nudity of any kind is allowed.
Photographers will be held accountable for their actions and those of clients, assistants and models.
No smoking is allowed. No open fires.
Page 1The photographer shall remove all litter from the area at the end of the photo shoot and completely remove all props, models or other introduced features.
Any use of electrical equipment, including additional lighting, must be approved in advance of the shoot. All cords or wires must be placed and guarded in a way that does not alter the pathway and put Canal Park visitors at risk.
Photographers are required to assume full responsibility for their photographic equipment. The Wayne County Historical Society will not be responsible for loss of equipment or personal property.
Use of Canal Park property as an unidentifiable background requires no credit. This includes extreme close-ups that are not unique to this property and could be locations other than the Canal Park. Use of identifiable images for websites and other promotional use MUST credit the Wayne County Historical Society. Signature by the undersigned below expressly acknowledges that the Wayne County Historical Society reserves the right to any and all legal remedies it possesses for the unauthorized use of identifiable images of the Canal Park that are used without compliance with the provisions of these Policies and Guidelines.
Parking
Parking is allowed only in designated area. All vehicles associated with the photo shoot must be in the Canal Park lot (entrance off of Route 6). No parking is permitted on Route 6.
Wedding Photography
Wedding photographers working with a bride/groom who have already rented the Canal Park for their event are exempt from additional fees as long as their photography work is limited to wedding activities. PHOTOGRAPHS OF OTHER WEDDING PARTIES ARE NOT ALLOWED unless the photographer for that wedding party has registered and paid the fee as a commercial photographer.
Scheduling Information
Registered photographers should call the Wayne County Historical Society at 570-253-3240 or email wchs@ptd.nett to schedule a photo shoot at least four days in advance. If you do not have a reservation, you may be asked to leave the facility.
Visitors
Visitors to the Canal Park may not be prevented from viewing an area being used by a photographer. They may be asked, politely, not to approach during a photo, but once the shot has been completed, the visitors may proceed. No public area may be closed or blocked to visitor access during a photo shoot.
Dressing Rooms
Changing rooms are not available. Limited restroom facilities are sometimes available but are not designed to handles changing activities. Use by the public of these facilities may not be restricted.
Refusal to Follow Canal Park Policies
If any individual does not comply with the above conditions, the Wayne County Historical Society reserves the right to deny permission to photograph and may request that the individual leave the premises. The undersigned expressly acknowledges and agrees that his/her expulsion from the grounds of the Canal Park shall also result in a forfeiture of any permit fees paid by the undersigned.
