922 Church Street This house is shown on the 1872 Honesdale map as the property of Mrs. P. P. Brown. It was conveyed by deed in 1901 by C. G. Armbruster as the property of John S. Brown to Mellin Aunger, spinster. In a will dated 1902, Mellin C. Aunger ..."gives to my sister Jane Whitney, a widow, whole interest in the property now held by deed and title and resided in by me on the west side of the park in the town of Honesdale." In January of 1906 Jane Aunger Whitney sold the house for $4,570 to John Smith, a glass cutter. His son Dick Smith, lyricist of many famous songs including "Winter Wonderland," grew up in this house and often returned from New York to visit his siter Marjorie. Dick Smith died of TB at the age of 34. In 1986 Marjorie Smith sold the property to Ray Hamill attorney, and Fredrick Eck public accountant, who maintain their professional offices in the building.
